Ergonomic Office Chair
Ergonomics is the study of what is called "human factors." Essentially, ergonomics is
people-friendly design that takes into consideration how people work and move, and optimize
both how people feel when using such products, and how efficiently these products can help
them work. Ergonomic office chairs are a good example of the role of ergonomics in the
workplace. Ergonomic desk chairs and executive ergonomic chair help to position your body
in comfort so that you can stay at your desk longer without suffering ill effects. Ergonomic
computer chairs are designed to facilitate comfortable use of a computer by placing your
body in the proper position in relation to the keyboard and the screen. Many people are
aware of the type of ergonomic office chairs that incorporate balance balls, which many
people find helps alleviate or avoid back pain. The use of ergonomic office chairs is all
about efficiency and comfort. Ergonomic desk chairs support your body comfortably so that
your back and neck are in neutral positions and that your arms can be raised to do work on
your desk or computer without strain. Depending upon your work, an armchair may be
ergonomically appropriate for you, or an armless chair may let you get more comfortably
close to working areas. How chairs move is also an element of ergonomics. Ease and
efficiency are important, so casters can help chairs move you around an L-shaped or U-shaped
work surface. Being able to raise and lower the chair to accommodate the correct ergonomic
position for operating a keyboard is also a key element of ergonomic computer chairs.
People who work long hours sitting back in their chairs may find that the ability to tilt is
beneficial. Many people find that a headrest with neck support also enables them to sit and
work comfortably for longer. Chairs that rock slightly can also be good for the circulation,
avoiding the need to get up and move around-and thus increasing the efficiency value of the
worker who can stay longer at his or her desk. While employers may consider the efficiency
aspects of ergonomic office chairs, for those of us who use them, the issue is comfort.
Ergonomic desk chairs that are designed to accommodate our work habits keep us more
comfortable, aid circulation, and help to avoid repetitive motion injuries and back strain.
Just because office chairs are designed with ergonomics in mind does not mean that their
other design elements are limited. Most ergonomic desk chairs are available in a wide range
of styles, colors, and materials from fabrics to leather. Even fabrics can be ergonomic when
they avoid that "sticky" feeling and stay cool to the touch. Sitting in an ergonomic office
chair should feel extremely comfortable and relaxed. |
